Create A Storyboard

A storyboard is an ordered list of imported video clips, either from the web, your computer, or a recording. You can assemble one or many storyboards to load for live mixing or to serve as the playlist when you put your channel on Autopilot & On-Demand.

Usually you, or one of your producers, would prepare a storyboard before your show airs so that you're ready to put on your best, but you can also assemble storyboards during a live show (especially if you have several producers working together).

Please be sure to spread your content amongst multiple storyboards as opposed to a single large storyboard.

1. Click the Manage Library tab.

2. Make sure the Import From the Web section is showing.

3. Create a new storyboard click the New storyboard Image:NewStoryboardButton.jpg button at the bottom left of the window.

4. Give a new name to a storyboard by double-clicking over its name and typing in text.

RSS Storyboards

Livestream allows you to import videos automatically from a Media RSS feed.

Enter the Media RSS feed URL and the most recent 25 clips in that feed will be automatically imported. The storyboard will continue to update with the latest clips.

Please note, the Media RSS Feed will need to contain the actual files, not the file link.

Adding RSS storyboards to your Autopilot playlist or On-Demand Library is a great way to keep your channel continuously updated with the latest content without the need to manually upload clips one at a time in the Studio.

Add Video Clips to a Storyboard

Livestream enables you to import videos from a number of sources including YouTube, web servers or your own desktop. Once clips are imported they are transcoded for playback on the Livestream Broadcast Network.

Search Youtube

Click on the help video below to play.

1. To search for particular content, click on the arrow according to your type of search.

You can search by:

  • Tag
  • URL
  • Username

2. Click the Search button.

The column on the right side is filled with video clips that meet your search criteria.

You can revisit this search results list at any time; it appears with the storyboards in the list on the left side of the window.

3. Preview the clips to find the ones you want. When you find a relevant clip, drag it and drop it over a storyboard.

4. Take a break while the videos are being imported into the Livestream system. If you click on the storyboard, you'll be able to watch their progress as they upload, and a Cue button will appear beside each clip when it's ready.

It will only take a few minutes to upload the video clips fully, but it's recommended you don't try broadcasting until they are all uploaded and ready to go.

Import Videos From a Web Server

1. Within the "Manage Library" tab click on "Import from Web Server"

2. Enter the URL of the clip you would like imported.

3. Enter the desired title.

4. Select the Storyboard you would like the clip loaded into.

Please note, the URL will need to contain the actual file. For example:

Upload Video Settings

Specify the aspect ratio of your uploaded video

  • By default, Livestream will auto-detect the resolution of uploaded videos and display them in the correct aspect ratio.
  • Manually selecting the aspect ratio will override automatic detection and display the video in the resolution of your choice.

Best Practices for Uploading Clips

Use File as Master

  • The "Use File as Master" option allows you to upload a supported file format without it being re-encoded by Livestream servers. This is great if you have existing videos that have been encoded as H.264 or VP6 format.
  • When the Use File as Master box is checked the file will not be transcoded and will be streamed exactly as it was encoded by you. When using this feature the video must be encoded at or below the specified channel quality setting.

A note about Livestream Video Codec and Quality
  • For free channels Livestream currently transcodes uploaded video on free channels to FLV using the Sorensen Spark codec, 400Kbps video, 64Kbps audio, 480x360 resolution, 25 fps.
  • To "Use uploaded file as master" for free channels the bitrate should be no higher than 400Kbps for video and 64Kbps for audio. The resolution should be no higher than 480x360. If it is higher the video will be transcoded to comply with your channel settings.
  • For Premium channels VP6 and MP4 transcoding and playback are available on at bitrates up to 1700Kbps.

What if the Uploaded Video Fails to Encode?

Occasionally an uploaded video will fail to properly encode the first time. If this occurs, simply click "re-import" on the clip tab to start the process over again. **Note** This can only be done on uploaded clips imported within the last 24 hours. This does not apply to any live broadcasted content. We encourage you to save locally to your computer as a back up.

Premium Channel Quality Settings

  • Livestream Premium channels offer a variety of standard quality settings for uploaded clips. Below are the specifications for these quality settings - uploading content in VP6 or H.264 format at or below the appropriate channel quality settings will allow them to pass through without transcoding when using the "Use uploaded file as master" option.
Basic (500Kbps)

High (700Kbps)

HD (1700Kbps)

High H264 Beta (700Kbps)

  • Channel quality can be changed through the Configure Channel page in the Livestream Account Center

Make Sure You Have Permission First!

You can gather content from video-on-demand web sites such as YouTube.

Most videos on these sites include a license for rebroadcast. However, some content may have been loaded without permission from the content owner and may not be copyright cleared. Be very careful; if you have doubts about the origin of some content, don't use it.

Any original content produced by people that you invite to participate on your channel is clear for you to broadcast. You also have a default license to use and rebroadcast their image. These are conditions that all Livestream users must agree to, as outlined in the terms and conditions of use.

In addition to your own original programming, you can also use existing copyright-free content on your broadcast. It is your responsibility to make sure that the content you upload for broadcast contains no copyright infringements.

Livestream will remove any account that is reported to be breaching content copyrights.
