Note: Although I keep gathering material and have built a large inventory of new stories and interviews, I've only limited posting to this platform for copyright reasons. Radio Stokey is an arts and grass-roots, cultural and social media radio experiment. Stoke Newington is one of London's top cultural centres, located close by the Olympic park development and boasts not only the highest concentration of artists per capita in Europe but also some of London's best restaurants, coffee houses (historically tied to the genesis of new political movements in the U.K.) as well as independent boutiques and designer shops. The format features interviews with local as well as international artists, musicians, and social commentators. Charley Weber, the producer & Editor, is a member of the American Society of Composers, Authors & Producers, attended the Summerhill School and has worked in Media in the U.S.A and Asia. Charley says, 'I have been testing the format for a simple but professional locally produced arts and social media platform, since the global social and economic events of 2008. The sweeping changes seem to throw up new challenges to communities and a need for grass-roots and intermediate journalism outlets, for groups and voices to express themselves and debate issues alongside the party political or mainstream media, corporate and national, PR (heavily spun) narratives and, say, the few other outlets like the local papers, twitter and facebook.' Anyone interested in developing this type of grass-roots and social political project, using the reports - I have many new ones on issues like media, diaspora and social change - encouraging local participation in re-visioning policy and public issues via social media and 'sustainable', connected and participating local communities, please contact me on weberc65@yahoo.com
